#Even Better Than The Real Thing (Whitney Houston tribute)

South African born Belinda Davids has to be the best Whitney Houston tribute act to have graced our shores, as endorsed by her well deserved win on BBC1’s prime time TV show ‘Even Better Than The Real Thing’.

Whilst on her world tour, I was privileged to watch Belinda perform her full set at the UK’s oldest established jazz venue – Eastleigh’s Concorde Club. The powerhouse of vocal supremacy sang audience favourites, such as I Will Always Love You and Saving All My Love For You, delivering an honorary master-class of how to rock a diva!

The evening started with a delicious a-la-carte dinner in The Concorde’s charming Fig Restaurant, which was formerly a Victorian schoolhouse. Ms Davids show was a massive sell-out and the Concorde Club set up individual rows of seating to ensure everyone got a front row view.

The Concorde Club is famed for securing the best tribute acts currently on the circuit, plus high end jazz musicians, to include Jamie Cullum, Sir Johnny Dankworth and Cleo Laine.

At 9pm the stage was set and the lively audience were more than ready to welcome this talented starlet, whose four octave vocal range ensured she reached every note of Whitney’s classic hits.  From Belinda’s four fabulous costume changes, to embracing the mannerisms of the world’s biggest diva, The Greatest Love of All Show, was a huge success.

This was Belinda’s second visit to the Club, which is a massive coup for The Concorde as next year Ms Davids will be performing her arena tour.   Huge names on the entertainment circuit yet to perform at The Concorde this year include Heather Small, Lulu and The Three Degrees. Long may this continue as its quite rare to find a decent establishment who serve good food and provide classic entertainment all under one roof.   More information about up & coming acts at The Concorde Club can be found here https://www.theconcordeclub.com/events/all/

I saw Ms Davids perform at The Concorde Club but her tour continues across the UK and Europe – do not miss it as  –  this lady really is the Queen of the Night!   More information here http://www.thewhitneyhoustonshow.com/home/events-archive
